Taste of the coffee

The Maracaturra Espresso has more acidity than our other espresso roasts. Thanks to the full flavors of dried fruit and chocolate, many people still enjoy it as a fruity espresso or as a base for a very smooth cappuccino.
When served as a café lungo or long black, you can reduce the acidity of the espresso. Vary the amount of water to make your perfect coffee.

Use of this coffee

This coffee is roasted for making espresso. It works perfectly with brew ratios of 2 (a syrupy espresso) to 4 (a slightly thinner espresso) or as a long black. (An espresso diluted with a little water.) This coffee is suitable for both fully automatic and semi-automatic ('piston') machines, but please note: The beans are very large and some coffee grinders may struggle with them.
You can also use this coffee in a moka pot (sometimes called a percolator).
This espresso roast is not suitable for filter coffee. We do have a lighter filter roast of this coffee.

Origin of the coffee

The Maracaturra Espresso is a coffee we purchase from Reserva El Jaguar in Nicaragua. Named after the 'Maracaturra' Arabica variety. The coffee grows slowly at a moderate altitude in the misty climate of Reserva El Jaguar in the Isabelia mountains. Read more about our collaboration here

Ecology

The coffee from Reserva El Jaguar is grown in a nature reserve in Nicaragua's Isabela Mountains, where the owners are responsible not only for the coffee plantation but also for the surrounding protected natural areas. Their mission is to conserve and restore nature, which they carry out with love and passion. Here you can read more about our collaboration with Reserva El Jaguar.

On top of that, Danvi invests in reforestation around the world through a project in Peru that is run by the local population and a foundation in the Netherlands. For every 5 kilos of coffee we sell, we donate the planting and maintenance of 1 tree to this project.

Have your coffee ground

You can have us grind your coffee. See the list below for the recommended grind size. A lower number means a finer grind.

Please note:
These values are starting points. Adjustments to the suggested grind size may be necessary for optimal results.

Not every bean tastes good with every brewing method. Read the coffee description for advice on how to use the coffee.

  • Semi-automatic espresso machine with a regular filter basket: 1.5
  • Semi-automatic espresso machine with a 'pressurised' filter basket: 2.5
  • Moka pot 1 to 3 cups: 4
  • Moka pot 4 to 10 cups: 4.5
  • Filter coffee: 8

A pressurised filter basket is a filter basket with built-in resistance that allows water to flow through slowly regardless of the grind size. Such a filter basket is usually recognisable by its double bottom, with many holes visible on the inside across the entire bottom and only a few holes visible on the outside.
