Reserva el Jaguar
Jinotega Region, Nicaragua
Where coffee and nature come together
Our collaboration with Reserva El Jaguar dates back to 2023, when Jean-Yves Duriaux – co-owner of Reserva El Jaguar in Nicaragua – walked into Danvi and asked if we were interested in trying his coffees.
Jean-Yves spoke about his coffees with such passion that we definitely had to arrange a follow-up meeting. As it turned out, Jean-Yves lives in
Wageningen and has a coffee plantation in Nicaragua with his parents, where
he grew up.
Actually, it is more than a plantation. It is a nature reserve where coffee grows. His parents are deeply committed to
nature restoration and conservation. Connecting natural areas and creating biodiversity is their passion. And birds. Take a look at the website
of Reserva El Jaguar for detailed information about the reserve.
About the coffee
In addition to their appreciation for nature, Jean-Yves and his parents, Georges and xxxxx Duriaux, are also passionate about coffee. Many varieties of coffee grow on their estate. Different varieties are cultivated in different fields, and sometimes they are grafted onto the roots of another coffee variety.
This all lays the foundation for excellent coffee. But much more is needed for that. Such as caring for the coffee plants, planting trees that provide shade
Everything for quality
A crucial part of this is the careful harvesting, during which only fully ripe berries are hand-picked over a period of 3 months.
Reserva El Jaguar produces washed coffees, natural-process coffees, and fermented naturals. Naturally, these processes are also given special attention
